Engineered Structure

URMC

To help the overcrowded Strong Memorial Emergency Department plan for a possible COVID surge, Dwyer assisted in the preliminary research to determine the validity of purchasing a temporary structure. Conceptual floor plans assisted the UR in selecting and ordering the appropriate size structure to alleviate pressures in the ED and to better allow for social distancing of patients.

Close coordination with engineering teams helped determine the optimal location of the tent within the existing Emergency Department parking lot.

The resulting structure includes 28 bays, a nurse work area and storage. From the project’s inception to occupancy, the project was completed in 5 months, on time and within budget working with LeChase Construction. The structure is still in use today.
