Hospital Addition & Renovation

Community Memorial Hospital, a Critical Access Hospital partnered with Dwyer to modernize its aging facility through a multi-year, phased transformation. Beginning with planning studies in 2015, the effort evolved into a flexible master plan that ultimately renovated more than 60 percent of the hospital while maintaining continuous operations.

Guided by collaborative visioning and analysis of inefficiencies, the team developed adaptable solutions that balanced long-term goals with budget realities. Construction, launched in 2018, was carefully sequenced to minimize disruption.

Key improvements included a renovated inpatient unit with 21 private rooms designed for comfort, privacy, and safety, and a reimagined Emergency Department featuring a clearer entrance, calming waiting areas, and flexible treatment spaces to improve throughput.

A central strategy focused on strengthening outpatient departments, including Radiology, Laboratory Services, and Physical and Occupational Therapy, where many patients first engage with care.

Radiology services were modernized and consolidated, including a new addition constructed to house the MRI suite, along with reconfigured support spaces that improved workflow across multiple imaging modalities. Enhanced staff operations, expanded lab draw areas for privacy and accessibility, and a relocated sterile processing department further improved efficiency, infection control, and surgical support.

Completed in early 2026, the final phase introduced a new Physical and Occupational Therapy department and redesigned main entrance and lobby. The light-filled entry improves wayfinding, privacy, and patient dignity, strengthening the hospital’s community presence.

Through collaboration and adaptive planning, the project reflects a strong owner–design partnership and reinforces high-quality care across a rural healthcare system.
